Top Personal tuition and horsemanship clinicsHG Equine can help you: - Develop your riding skills
- Understand and communicate with your horse
- Be more confident around your horse
- Discover what good horsemanship is all about
Riders and their horses are extremely varied. Harvey’s teaching approach is based on what the horse has to offer and what each rider would like to achieve individually. We start by assessing your skill level and that of your horse and offering tuition that will meet your level and needs. Once your level has been established, Harvey provides instruction based on the following three principles which he believes are the key to horses and riders working successfully together: - Feel for the horse
- Wait for the horse
- Respect your horse and have them respect you
HG Equine’s definition of good horsemanshipOver thousands of years, great horsemen and women have shared their expertise and as a result, there have been great advancements in knowledge about how humans and horses should work together. However, there are also mixed messages circulating that can confuse riders who are just starting out - in particular phrases like ‘horse-whispering’ which are somewhat Hollywood- derived. Harvey’s definition of good horsemanship is simple. It’s about understanding how horses behave in a herd environment, then using their natural energy, their instinct of flight and directing it around so that where you want the horse to be was their idea, and you end up there as well.
